The Walking Challenge that's built for midlife and perimenopausal women

Welcome slags, to 28 days of becoming a total steps wanker. The FitBtch 28-Day Walking Challenge drops on Monday 16th March, although you can get involved any time over the coming weeks. You'll need to join our membership to take part, but you can start with a FREE 7 day trial and see what you think before committing.

Let's talk through the challenge then.

Walking wankers and proud - why walking is the most underrated exercise for midlife women

For those who had a clichéd 'new year, new me' fitness resolution, January can be a bit of a false start. By mid-February, half the people who were packing out the gyms are quietly back on the sofa feeling guilty. Eff that mate. How's about we stop trying to go from slug to six pack all in one go and let's start with something that's more likely to work.

Walking.

We know, we know, it doesn't feel dramatic enough. Nobody's going to post a mirror selfie with guns flexed and the caption "just walked to the shops and back". But walking is brilliant, one of the most powerful things you can do for your physical and mental health, and the fitness industry has been sleeping on it for years (not us though *cough).

The research on walking is inspiring shiz: better mood, lower stress, improved sleep, support for fat loss, reduced risk of approx seventeen (give or take) different things we're all quietly worried about as we get older. It also happens to be one of the only forms of exercise that most people can do consistently, in real life, without it becoming another thing they sacked off after three weeks. Even midlife, perimenopausal mums.

Habit-building is hard as fk, and it takes most people far longer than any fitfluencer will admit. Walking is the habit that’ll actually stick because it fits around your real midlife rodeo rather than trying to demand you rearrange it.

You need nothing whatsoever except a decent pair of trainers you probably already own, and some ground.

Let’s get out in the fresh-ish air and start stepping, slags!

So what's in this challenge?

Daily step goals that don't make you want to cry.

A downloadable calendar with achievable, progressive targets that build over the 28 days. Because crossing things off is one of life's small but legitimate pleasures and anyone who says otherwise is lying.

Guided audio tracks for your walks.

Vic has recorded some audio treats to keep you company. Got your own playlist or podcast? Crack on, mate. That said, we'd also quietly recommend the occasional walk with nothing in your ears at all, just tuning in to whatever's going on around you and whatever's going on in your head. Try it!

Weekly themed challenges.

If doesn't matter if you're walking through rolling countryside or a Tesco car park (or in our bit of East London, an old sewer pipe walkway which mixes lots of beautiful plants, trees and the waft of human shit), our weekly challenges keep things interesting and stop the whole thing feeling like a ballache by day nine.

A community that's absolute fire.

The FitBtch Facebook group is genuinely one of the best things about being a member. Other women doing the same thing, cheering each other on, sharing the walking wanker wins. It makes a real difference.

Who's this challenge for?

Everyone. Anyone who's looking for a walking challenge for midlife women. Absolute beginners who want to build a foundation before tackling anything more intense. Regular exercisers who want to add more daily movement without adding more workout sessions. Anyone who's been meaning to do something and just hasn't found the right starting point yet.

If you're not a member, the first 7 days are on us. After that it's £12.99 a month, or £7.49 a month on an annual membership, less than a couple of coffees to feel genuinely better in your body every single day.

You don’t need to do anything yet, we’ll remind you next week on challenge launch day. Stick your details here if you're really keen - something special may come your way.
